WOMEN ARE THE LIGHTS AND MOTHERS OF THE WORLD

Discussing gender equality is extremely complicated and sensitive in Madagascar. Many women in rural areas are marginalised and unable to fully participate in cultural, social, political and economic life as well as the process of decision making. They often have very limited access to resources and education. The majority of people think that women were born to be wives and to give birth and stay home completing household tasks and serving the family. According to UNICEF “Many more girls than boys are married while they are still children. This often means stopping school and getting pregnant early. Girls still don’t have equal access to education in more than half the world. Nearly a quarter of girls aged 15 to 19 are not in school.” Furthermore, more than hundreds of women and young girls are victims of Sexual Harassment at public services, especially those who live with disabilities. For instance, professors abuse their students for sex. It is difficult for women to get jobs and even to hold political positions without sexual corruption taking place. These practices are very common. But, unfortunately, they cannot protest because of power. Without a doubt, women have phenomenal leadership skills. They obviously deserve human rights and their voices should be heard. As well as this, they are resilient, they are mothers, and they are lights in the world. Despite this, lots of civic societies and national and international organisations are getting involved in encouraging young girls to see themselves as the future and supporting projects that promote female empowerment in every field of work. Each and every action to promote gender equality counts. In conclusion, men and women are equally capable of excelling in any professional field. The solution is to develop a community and country that requires contributions from all citizens regardless of gender, age, religion or status. Together we can be stronger.
